International Volunteer Day (IVD) was designated by the United Nations in 1985, is held every year on the 5th of December. This day gives a unique opportunity for volunteers and volunteer organizations to celebrate their efforts, share their values, and create awareness on their work.
The Department of Social Development is charged with the responsibility of coordinating different non-governmental organizations and government ministries and agencies in celebrating the day. This year’s theme is “Volunteers Build Resilient Communities”.
The planning committee has identified the following three major activities for the celebrations:-
1. Launch of the National Volunteer Week at UN Gigiri on 30th November, 2018
2. Participate in celebrations of the Disability Day on 3rd December 2018
3. Volunteer of the Year Award (VOYA) Gala Night on 5th December 2018
