Core Mandate
To provide literacy and education to out-of-school youth, adults and older members of society in order to create a well-informed and productive human resource that is self-reliant and who live in dignity, respect and free from abuse.
Core Functions
- Eradicate illiteracy among the hard-to-reach, those in vulnerable and marginalized areas out-of-school youth, adults and older members of society by providing them with the basic communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Sustain and promote multiple literacies through Alternative Provision of Basic Adult and Continuing Education programmes.
- Provide education to the hard-to-reach, those in vulnerable and marginalized areas, out-of-school youth and adults through alternative education approaches.
- Promote acquisition of relevant knowledge, skills and attitude among the hard-to-reach, those in vulnerable and marginalized areas, out-of-school youth and adults in order to facilitate their adaptation to new technologies and production skills.
- Promote self-confidence, values and positive behaviour towards society through ALE programmes.
- Collate, store and disseminate data on ALE literacy levels.
- Coordinate ALE programmes and provide a Secretariat to the Special Board of Adult and continuing Education.
- Train local human resource for county development through participatory and integrated development approach.
