HELP-AGE International in Conjunction with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the World Bank on Thursday the 13th of Feb held a one-day workshop at the Pan Afric Hotel in Nairobi on “Older Persons and DATA use”.The event brought on board various Government Ministries and players from the civil society to discuss how Data can be used to improve the lives of Older Persons.
Kenya, like many countries in Africa, lacks a comprehensive plan of action that targets older people dur to lack of data on their realities. The lack of data on civic, political, social-cultural and economic spheres of oldet persons has contributed to low political will, low budget allocation on ageing and older persons issues including uncertainty about the policy and programme approaches to be implemented.
The workshop was meant to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to forge partnerships and brainstorm around the use and implication of the available data.
Which would in turn help to accelerate the availability of data necessary for improved age friendly legal, policy and programmatic frameworks that have impactful effect on wellbeing, dignity and quality of life of older persons.
